Help with multiple color changes in afghan pattern

Hi there! I'm new here and would love to get some ideas on how to complete a single crochet afghan that has a multiple colored Mickey mouse design in it. I'm trying to make the back look decent without a lot of carried yarn, but is there a way to do that without sewing in hundreds of ends?!
    Thanks, ~Dotti

Hi dottiharris, have you tried crocheting over the tails as you go along? I'm not sure this is helpful but I hope it is. xoxoxo Lynda

Hi Lynda! Thanks for responding to my question. Yes, I crocheted over the ones with the color changes, but the outside sections don't have any other colors. So, after about 40 rows, I noticed the color sections were higher than the rest of the blanket.

I ripped all the color rows out and I think I'll try doing HDC for the parts where no color is carried with SC for the parts with carried yarn. I've watched a ton of YouTube videos and tried a couple different methods. I don't want to give up on this pattern! :)
