    I find that the liquid starch works the best. I purchase it at Wal-Mart by the half gallon. I soak the article in it foe some time to saturate well. The I squeeze out the excesses but do not wring. Still leaving it quite wet and saturated.
    I purchase ceiling tiles from Menards depending on what size you need for your project. I cover them with saran wrap and lay out my project. I then use rust proof pins to stretch and pin well. May take days for a doily verses a day or so for snowflakes.
    If you are using a Styrofoam form, like for a hat etc... then I also cover that with saran wrap. It pulls off beautifully. Good luck.
