that's what I found too, thought maybe I did something wrong, thanks for verifying

think I have it figured out....done in strips.....chain as long as you want your scarf, dc 7 stitches down chain, chain 7, sk 7 on chain, join and dc 7 down the length....start next strip and each time you break to chain, entwine through loops on first strip.....hmmm, probably best if you start and end. your strip with the chain part first so the ends are secure. Just figured it out so won't try it till tomorrow cause midnight now and work in the morning....if anyone tries it first, post the results...I'm going to try it after work, but don't mind if someone lets me know how it goes first and posts my mistakes lol
