- I became interested in knitting at the age of 19, when I watched my cousin knitting a beautiful sweater. I remember asking her if she would teach me and her response was “ take this book, yarn and needles and go try learning on your own. I could have chosen the most basic of all knitting projects but was drawn to cable stitches. I made my very first cable blanket, which later on my oldest daughter carried around all the time, like Linus from Charlie Brown (lol). I realized much later on that cables lends itself to many interpretations in knitting. It's easy to do; and you can make all kinds of interesting and imaginative cable patterns. All it took was a little patience and practice! Whenever I stumbled upon a pattern or stitch that I did not understand or couldn’t grasp, I read, read, read and if I still didn’t get it I would turn to more experienced knitters. Learning to knit nowadays is great for beginners because there is just so much information available at your fingertips thanks to the Internet.
It has just been in the last few months that I have become interested in crocheting. I like the idea of long chains of looped stitches and wrapped threads that are created with just a hook, producing elaborately lacy stitch patterns that I as a knitter couldn’t imagine was possible. I have accomplished a few projects from Drops design, which I hope to share with anyone who might be interested. With this being said I do find some projects in crocheting a challenge, which is why I have signed up with “Crochet Talk”. I am hoping that this will be a fantastic way for me to learn new techniques and tricks, to share completed projects, and enjoy interacting with a community of people who share a passion for learning.
