I agree w/ this. I have both Susan Bates and Boyes hooks. I have no issues using either. I find some yarns just want to split no matter what hook you use.

Love this. I make walker totes they but are smaller....just big enough for a paperback book or some Kleenex.....just small things. I might try a couple of these to see how well they are received.

I dont like Homespun or any of those fun fur, eyelash or ribbon yarns. My daughter uses all of them and enjoys working w/ them.

I really don't have a favorite color to work w/ on projects. I love purple.....any shades...so if I was making something for myself that would be my go to color.

Right now I am making walker totes for the elderly. They work up fast and don't take a lot of yarn. Other than that I do a lot of preemie hats for an on line group I belong to.

Years ago there was a craft store in a nearby town that sold mill end yarns. I bought a few and never had problems w/ them.

I would suggest a sweater, booties and blanket. Alot of people dont even use the hats anymore. If you are doing a special order you could ask them if they want a hat.

I knew about the tinsel and yarn pieces. One of my cats chews on plastic bags. She doesnt get any pieces off but it is annoying. I swear she can sniff out a plastic bag from 100 yards away.
