counting increases on pattern?

Hi, I started the wheelchair wrap and just finished row 2 but at the end of row 2 it says 8 sts increased. I tried to figure out how they got 8 sts increased. I only count 5 increases - 6 increases if you count the dc in the turning chain.

I don't understand row 3-28 either - 'always increasing the number of dc between V sts by 2?' Figured it out with the help of
