It is very interesting that their has been no written documentation on crochet history in America. It talks about the Progressive Era and also has some old pictures of crochet advertising as well as older styles of crocheting.

Wow, cool. I think it is important to know a bit about the origin of a craft and we will like to know anyway, if we really are passionate about something. Thanks for posting this Barbi...you are so resourceful!:) I went to check out the site right away; indeed, very interesting. In Europe, it is believed to have become popular in the 1800's, with the first pattern appearing in 1824 (apparently). I find this relatively new...?
