Can someone tell me what DK weight of yarn is?
Thanks
I copied this answer from Yahoo Answers by iknitandstitch:
DK is a UK (and maybe Australia - but not sure on that) weight of yarn ... it is equivalent to 2 strand of 3 ply baby yarn.
Many, many moons ago 3ply was the normal weight of knitting yarn - so when 2 strands were used the term DK (double knitting) was used.
Look on Yarn Forward Tension (Gauge) Guide There are loads of comparison charts on there - very useful.
I hope this helps. I was curious too, so I'm happy you asked the question. A new thing learned! (I have a theory that you will live a better life if you never go to bed without having learned one new thing that day....)
I have learned at least one thing every day from this site! That's why it's such a fantastic site! Thanks chef for the post!
It's also a 3 weight
DK weight yarn is what is commonly referred to as 'double knitting' weight in some parts of the world.
The US equivalent is a 'light worsted weight' or #3 yarn.
