Wanted a crochet pattern stitch to fill in a walking pleat/slit in a skirt

Hi everyone

I have just heard about this type of thing just a few days ago. A friend told me about it and asked me if I wanted to have a skirt to practice on, and I said yes, so I am committed to doing this project.

Any idea as to the pattern stitch is welcome. I will consider them all, make samples and take them back to my friend to give her a choice of which one she would like to have on her skirt.

I never made one out of crochet before although I have filled them in with material.

This will be a fun project. Feel free to help in any way that you want/can.

I would assume that you could treat this like adding a border to a piece of material, such as a pillow case? The only difference would be to join the crochet to both sides of the skirt slit. Curious to also hear from other members of the group!

Also - you could probably do a variety of stitch designs depending on your preference.

This is an interesting idea! Are you going to just use edging on the sides or do you want to fill it in completely? I have no ideas just now but I'm sure I will keep thinking about it because it is unusual! You know-in the 70's they would put panels of crochet in the seams of jeans-maybe a vintage pattern site would have something! Hate that term "vintage"- I was raising my children in the 70s and I don't consider myself vintage!

A variety of stitch designs, what a neat idea. I'm sure that after I have completed one, I will make more, if only for my own skirts. Thanks for the idea

I think a practical stitch to use would be the "V" stitch, wish I had an illustration, but I don't. It's probably pretty easy to find.

You make a foundation chain + 3 more chains (counts as dc) sk 2 ch, dc in next ch, ch 2, dc in same ch as first dc. ch 2, sk 2, dc in next ch, continue as long as your foundation chain lasts. At the end made a V st then dc in last st. turn
Row 2.....ch 3 Vst in ch sp of first V stitch (that is double, ch 2 and double in same space)
Continue to the end of the row and after last V st, dc in dc on row below.
