I've been looking everywhere for a baby afghan with a dog motif. The best pattern would be in granny squares. I'm doing the afghan for my son's friend and am getting discouraged. Can anyone help me?

Hello,
Here are a few resources. I am not sure how helpful they will be but wanted to offer them:
Crochet Pattern Central - Free Dog Crochet Pattern Link Directory
Animal Patterns -- Free Crochet Patterns With an Animal Design
Every thing else I have found so far has been with purchase required. Also, others may know of something which will be helpful for you. Try not to get discouraged!
I also found alot of different crochet images on this search link - was not sure what type of dog pattern you are looking for:
dog afghan crochet - Bing Images
Thank you, I'll give them a try.
One reason I am working so hard on this particular blanket is my son's friend. His sister is having the baby (boy), and its just the two of them. Their mom died of cancer 4 yrs ago, as he started his senior year in high school, and he's had not a lot of good happen since then, so I want to really make him a nice afghan for his new nephew. Its, also, part of a tradition in his family and I'm happy to help keep it going.
Chelle,
What a great idea in helping someone in need. I am sure it will definitely be worth the effort!
I have a 1979 book by the American School of Needlework called "The Great Granny Crochet". There is a picture afghan in it with a dog, doghouse, bone and fence. The original instructions using worsted weight yarn and a G hook make a 45" x 68" afghan. I made this for my newborn nephew many years ago, substituting baby yarn and used a D (I think) hook which made a good-sized baby afghan. My nephew is now a grown man and the afghan is long gone so I can't get a photo of it to show you.
Here are some afghan row counts you might like, but they're not granny square patterns:

Chelle, What a great thing you are doing for your son's friend! You have gotten some good links! Hope you find what you're looking for!
Maybe you could find a dishcloth pattern with a dog motif and use that as the center of your afghan.
