Self-Taught
Hi everyone! I am a self-taught crocheter..... Just recently learned to read a pattern, and even more recently tried my first attempt at reading a diagram - and it worked! I think that, based on my first attempt anyway, diagrams are easier than reading a pattern. I just hope this statement rings through throughout..., Anyway, just wanted to say hi.

Hi Tender and Welcome to crochet talk

Welcome. We love our crochet, don't we? I'm excited for you being self taught and putting yourself out there with diagrams. For me, I like the diagrams, but the traditional old-fashioned me gravitates to a written pattern. I would still agree that the charts and diagrams are best. I guess that's why most overseas patterns are in diagram form. Annette

Hi Tender!
I too am self-taught. Back in 1965 a friend I worked with showed me the chain stitch and told me to buy a book showing the different stitches. There weren't nearly as many as there are today. She said to practice, practice, practice...and I did. By the end of that I was hooked (no pun intended) and went on to make an afghan. It turned out awful. Small at one end and large at the other...but I learned from it. I keep learning new things until this day.

Howdie, and welcome; I have to agree I prefer diagrams vs the written patterns, but it's always good to know both; happy crocheting.
