I've bought No 3 thread in Walmart. Our Walmart doesn't have much of a selection, just the basic white and a few colors! Or are you looking for yarn? A lot of baby yarn is size 3- also sports weight yarn!
Try Hobby Lobby, Michael's, Wal Mart or JoAnne's - but price them out because they may do a bulk order for you.
If you have a Michaels nearby, try there. I haven't bought any 4,000 yd spools for a while, but that's where I used to buy them. Also, in the Michaels flyer or even on line, you can get a coupon (usually 40 % off a reg priced item). Every week they have these coupons. Hope this helps!
Also Joann's carries alot of crochet thread. You can buy the #10 thread in very large balls there. They also have alot of different colors. Good luck!
JoAnn's has lots of #3 yarn in their baby section. Also, you might watch for sales on yarn.com. I've managed to catch some really good deals there.
