I've had great luck with a large hook- J, K, or L and 1 strand or two of yarn and do a tier drop. It is double crochet and goes fast and is very pretty.
Make your chain of 145 stitches loosely. Row 1- in 4th chain from hook double crochet and in the next chain. * chain 1, skip next chain, double crochet in each of next 3 chains. repeat from *across; chain 3. turn,
Row 2- DC in each of next 2 DC * chain 1, dc in each of next 3 double crochet; repeat from* across ending by working dc in top of turning chain until 2 loops remain on hook, change colors by drawing new color yarn through loop.
Row 3: *Chain 1, skip next dc, dc in next dc, work a long dc (yarn over, insert hook in next ch 1 space 2 rows below and pull up a a 3/4" loop), dc in next dc; repeat from * across to last double crochet, chain 1, skip next double crochet, double crochet in top of turning chain.
Row 4: *Chain 1, double crochet in each of next 3 double crochets; repeat from * across ending chain 1, double crochet i top of turning chain, changing colors as before.
Row 5: Work Long double crochet, double crochet in next double crochet,* chain 1, skip next double crochet, double crochet in next double crochet.... Hope you get the idea!!
This pattern is also referred to as Lark's Foot.
Good luck. It is beautiful in any color combination.
