Red face Cat in the Hat hat

Trying to make a Cat in the Hat hat for adult. I think I can figure a pattern, but does anyone have any idea how to make it stand up and not flop over?
    TIA! New here

Can you attach a piece of cardboard behind it?

Many years ago I sewed a Halloween princess costume for my daughter. The hat was high with veiling at the point. I lined it with buckram that I got at the fabric store. Worked out really well. Was long ago so don't know if buckram is still available but you could investigate.

Me again! Just checked out JoAnn's. They have buckram and it is still used for stiffening. You won't need much so shouldn't be expensive. Good Luck!
