Carried through yarn. Can I cut it?

I have carried through yarn on my crochet graphgan but I dont like how it looks. Could I cut it and tie it off instead?

I cut them and wove into the project. I had lots of tails when I did mine.

Hello Trick, I don't like how carrying yarn across items look either. I tried it a few times and it uses up a lot of yarn and if you don't keep the yarn at the top it shows through. However depending on your pattern there may be a reason that the designer wants you to carry the yarn through.

I cut my yarn at the end if I have to change colors and leave a tail to weave in.

To answer your question it is your item you can cut the yarn as long as you tie it off or weave in the ends if you want to.

Thank you for your reply. I dont think I'm explaining myself very well. I'm wondering if I can cut and tie off yarn that has already been carried through the work to change the look

Hi Trick, Let me see if I understand your question. You carried the yarn across the row and you want to cut it at the end of the row and tie off that piece of yarn. Then the next time you need that color you will start the row with that color and not carry it across and will cut and tie it at the end of the row. Is this what you want to do?

In an earlier post you said you didn't want to start over so if you change now by starting each row with a new color and not bringing it across your piece will look different and also when you carry yarn your piece is thicker so the new way will be thinner so the piece may not look like the beginning.

I don't know if this is what you are asking or not so I may not have answered your question correctly.
Let me know and I will try again.

    Hi Trick,
Sorry went back to your first post and reread it. Yes you can cut and tie off already completed rows so you don't have so many to do at the end of you project.

Sorry, I misread this the first time.

Thank you so much for taking the time to help me. I'm struggling to explain. My work is white with purple pictures on it. I have carried the purple under the white when the graph is (example) 4 purple 8 white 4 purple. Also example ive done the letter y so between the two top parts ive carried the yarn.
    Does that make sense?
I would like to cut the carried yarn in the center so neither side comes undone and tie it off. But I think the tails might be too short

Hello again. I don't think I can help you with this. If you have yarn between a "Y" if you cut it where would you tie it off?

I am so sorry I am no help with this but there are others on this forum that might be able to help you.

    Good luck,
