Thanks Faye, I will check it out.

Kathy B. I'm about half-way between Lansing (the capital) and Battle Creek. They were calling for bad storms on Sat but we didn't get them. We got about a half inch over the weekend. It's raining again now, mildly. We've gotten just under a half-inch so far today. There are severe thunderstorm warnings to the south of us until midnight. Thanks for the pattern info.

DinahRoberts, it's a small world when you start chatting with people that have the same interests. You're a brave lady working on tunics and cardigans. Good Luck! I would love to see pictures when you've completed one. What kind of crocheted items do you take to craft shows? Good luck with the show on the 4th.

Loving that everyone is soooo friendly here!

    Good Morning Purple Dahlias
Your family sounds so much like mine. I also homeschooled 3 from K to 12. My oldest who is now married with 3 kids of her own went on to college to be a music teacher and taught music at a Christian School for grades K to 8.She is now a stay at home mom and is in her second year of homeschooling. My grandson is just completing 1st grade. My son went on to Culinary school and was a pastry chef at the Borgota Casino in Atlantic City for 4 years but now moved up her to the Central NY mountains and is a chef at an Italian Restaurant. (We lived on a 6 acre farm in NJ, that is why he worked in AC) and my third just received her Associates degree from a county college and will be going to SUNY (State University of NY) in Oneonta and will be majoring in Theater Arts and minoring in Dance. She did her Associates completely on line so she still has not ever stepped into a classroom and this fall will be her first day of school LOL....We all love to tease her with that! So just to agree with you Homeschooling works! I would do it all over again!

You also sound like us with your animals and gardens. In NJ we had milking goats - 28 to milk twice a day, 7 bucks just for pets, and over 100 chickens which we sold eggs. We also kept roosters there were 11 of those because they were beautiful! We sold our produce at a little farm stand and just jarred our tomatoes for pasta sauce.
My youngest is my only crocheter. She is very talented. She even belongs to this message board but seldom posts. She just broke her foot 2 weeks ago and is not dancing currently....but will be back in commission the first week of August just in time to start school and back to work at the dance studio.

Welcome to the board...it seems we have a lot in common!

    Good Morning Teri!

To those that have read these posts it appears that we do have a lot in common. I am going to blow your mind with some more common facts: my oldest loves to sing. Quite frequently she sings at church; she has a wonderful voice but would love to have training to make the most of what she has. My oldest son's (#2 child) dream for many years has been to become a chef; his second dream is to become a massage therapist. He will be pursuing the massage therapist dream; it is the most realistic at this point in time. My youngest son is the only one of the three to enjoy crocheting. Yes, the hands on approach to homeschooling truly does work. Unfortunately many people abuse this choice.

Wow, that's a lot of goats! We are against goats because of our neighbor's lack of responsibility for keeping their 200+ goats on their own property. Thankfully that ended up being a short term problem when they decided that it was just too much work for them. LOVE, love goat cheese! Love the little critters for their curiosity but we suffered a lot of crop damage due to their owner's lack of responsibility.

I agree with you about roosters being beautiful! To me nothing sounds more calming than a rooster's crow; I can rate it as a white noise. We try to buy only pullets (young hens) but have ended up with roosters. Once they are discovered we usually take them to be butchered (just another mouth to feed and of no benefit to us and usually end up torturing the hens). Thankfully there are other people in the neighborhood that have chickens so I still get to hear the roosters crow.

Prayers for your daughter's quick recovery with her broken foot. I imagine that it is frustrating for her.

    Loving the friendliness here! :P

LOL.... My youngest, her name is Micaelina, the one who is to be the Theater Major, currently takes singing lessons with a teacher who used to be Carlotta in Phantom of the Opera on Broadway. She loves her. She does not come cheap....$90.00 for a 50 minute lesson! Micaelina only goes 2 x per month and sometimes only 1x per month. She pays for it herself. When she begins school in the fall, her Theater History professor will be someone who was Christine in Phantom also on Broadway for 10 years! Needless to say she is very excited! Mic also sang at church and was worship leader for the youth group worship team.
We kept our roosters since we are vegetarians. Our farm became a safe haven for unwanted farm animals or farm animals who were abused and taken away by the Humane Society.

WOW! WOW! WOW! It sounds like Mic will have quiet the role models. I bet Mic and Olivia, my daughter would get along very well!

I am impressed with the fact that you allowed your farm to be utilized in such a manner. One of my dreams growing up was to become a veterinarian.
It is our house that animals show up at; many people drop their animals off in our area when they no longer want them. Several years ago I woke up at 2:30a.m. to seven or eight Varner Gypsy horses in our front yard. They were the neighbors down the road; they were on vacation at the time. In my sleepiness I thought I could get them to follow me back home if I took apples out for them. Varner Gypies are almost as large Belgians...needless to say them swarmed on me. LOL I ended up looking like the needle in the haystack. They did make it back home shortly thereafter when the neighbors that were taking care of them noticed my van lights in their window. What an experience! Great to laugh about now but then it was a little scary.

Good question Susan M J...........Most of the time I prefer to work on a project that can be completed in a couple of hours or less. Why? I find that part of doing a project for me is being able to see it through completion and not having another unfinished project. Sometimes I just want to feel that I accomplished something!!! & to enjoy myself while doing it! I don't do well with large projects when it is warm out; I prefer to save those for the cooler weather.
