My mom has both of the diseases you are talking about. She has days that she can hardly function or even get out of bed. It has been a big struggle for her.

I was diagnosed a little over two years ago with fibro, I have had irritable bowel disease, depression, chronic fatigue disease, for the past 33 years. I also had to have a hysterectomy back in 1981, I was in my 20's. also have osteo arthritis too. I take a host of medicines none of which help to relieve the pain. I am lucky if sleep finds me for at least 4 hrs a night. I also have restless leg syndrome. and I am currently taking the highest dosage available for it. and still I can be sitting and my legs will just start jumping. I had a stroke in 2007, got that for my birthday that year. and I am sure all of you know the horrid weight gain you can get with some of the medicines we take. But I still get up and keep doing as much as I can, because I am afraid if I let myself slow down I won't want to get up. I really have to watch what I take as I am allergic to 75% of the meds the Dr's can give me. So that means no pain meds except tylenol.
Landon this was a great idea, it will help so much to talk to others who have the same illness. I have been on disability for almost 2 years now for the fibro.

That is awful only being able to take tylenol, that never helped me at all.. My step-daughter has Fybro, but has hers under control with Ultram, as for as I know she is still on it.. She said if it wasn't for that she would be unable to work..

I feel for everyone. I slept in a recliner for over 3 years. I never realized how many people have fibro and all the diseases that go with it. People who don't have don't understand that with fibro even just being touched sends pain thru your entire body. I have to do everything in the morning. I go grocery shopping early. Once I am done grocery shopping and done putting it away, I am finished for the day. I have to force myself to do anything else physical that day. My husband knows I have to rest once I am home. He once told a close "friend" of mine that I have a full time job and that is going to the gym and doing water aerobics (best exercise for fibro) and walking. Just doing that helped me to function. They even had water yoga in the therapy pool (102 degree water) which was wonderful. They had Tai Chi. I have not gone to the gym in 2 years because of illness, arthroscopic knee surgery, and shingles. I will be going back March 1. The only place I do not hurt is in the water. It seems that people with fibro are chronically ill, too. Landon, I was on 3600mg of Neurontin. I slept so much that I asked to be taken off all but 1200mg at nite. Judy

I'm back! It is an excruitiating illness that no one understands unless they have it. All of us are dealing with different stages. I thought I just had back problems that extremely painful since I was 21 after my first son was born and every 3 years it would go out and I couldn't move, I then had 2 boys by 24 and my back went out like clock work around or on thanksgiving I wouldn't be able to move the spasms were so severe my doctor then sent me to specialist after specialist no hope just vicodin, carisupidol(soma), and ibprofin, that worked for awhile. I remarried and 2 years after the marriage I had my 3rd son then 28, spent 9 1/2 years being thrown through walls, windows and so much more! My back increasingly got worse of course every year my back went out same time as always. Then 1 year before the divorce November 20 or so I crawled out of bed to the bathroom my oldest son 14 ended up carrying me to bed. My pain specialist wanted and did do a synstylic joint injection while I was under he said he is writing down no surgery or anything because it got worse after.

He put me on more meds sent me to more specialist with no answer no cure it was humiliating, I was just as confused as he was, I lost my job because I could not walk far, bend, lift my residents or stand for long periods at a time. I found my ANGEL(my hubby now). He helped me explain what I was going through to doctors, they did not believe I could possibly hurt that bad. I couldn't take Celebrex Cymbalta or lyrica they all caused horriable side effects. We finally asked a social worker if she knew of a good dr or and pain specialist. Then finally we had more xrays, blood work just to see what was going on while in the meantime fighting SSI cuz I could not work, 4 years later they finally believed after my new dr said I had fibro rhemetoid arthritis and a guinee pig to see what meds worked and what didn't also now the leg symptoms start up.

I can't handle long time in water and I love to swim and especially take showers and a bath once in awhile! I have some good days with extremely heavy pain meds and spasm meds I take usually clonazepam for my stress fatigue andit helped until recently now they added a new med for the tears I can not stop do to a shot or who knows maybe the fibro. There is always a day I wish I didn't hurt and wish others didn't have to deal with it as well. LOVE YOUR FRIEND MANDA! I apologize for my long so story!

Amanda, never apologize. Fibro is a long, painful story. Barbara, I'm sorry your mom has to suffer thru it. Mine did without a whimper. I don't know how she did it. Now the docs tell me I have osteoporosis. How can I have it with all the calcium I take, and all the yogurt and milk I eat and drink? You can be so careful, and it doesn't seem to matter. So much for the bone-building exercise. And with all the fibro meds, I am not underweight, that's for sure. Sorry, just thinking out loud. I wish I could have all of you feel like I do. I feel like I am in remission. I just ache badly today. On that stupid scale of 1-10, I'm only a 5 today, and I settle for that any day. We have our little 4-yo granddaughter, Avery, coming over for lunch today. Yay! Have a less painful day today! Hugs, Judy

Hi everyone, I too have fibromyalgia, polymyositis, osteoarthritis, and now just newly diagnosed with some type of autoimmune eye disease too. I had about 20 years of doing really, really bad, running from one dr to another. Was on high doses of prednisone for about 6 years, but have been off of it for a long time now, but not w/o getting most of the side effects. Lost my teeth, they decayed from the root upwards, and the dentists feel it was from the prednisone, also have oseoporosis, spinal stenosis. I had to be taken off of all the arthritis type drugs because about 5 years ago my kidneys failed, so am basically on morphine, . extended release tabs. to be take 1 tablet every 12 hrs. Also taking 1000 milligrams of tylenol 3 times daily for the arthritis. Neurontin, but the generic version which is gabbepentin for neuropathy. I do have a 5 mg. tablet of oxycodone on hand for break through pain which I don't take very often. I also take some type of medication for the muscle pain, but have to take it only on an as needed basis, and that's why I can't remember what it is called. I also have xanax for my nerves but they haven't been too badly lately, so I only have to take one at bedtime, but it is prescribed for 3 times daily. Because I have suffered a stroke a number of years ago, I also take plavix which is finally generic and also warfarin. But I too went from dr. to dr. and was told it was all in my head, until finally about 11 years ago I hit the right dr. and he got me to a rheumatologist that diagnosed the fibromyalgia, but since my kidney failure, my internest and my kidney dr. are the only ones who are allowed to prescribe which drugs I take. I too went to a pain specialist and he gave me 4 nerve blocks and the last one seemed to do the trick,I am finally doing pretty good, since five years ago. The thing that worked the best for me besides finally getting a dr. to believe in me and could see that I really was suffering from pain, was when my husband retired. He took the stress out of my life and I feel better now then I have felt in a very long time. It is nice there is a place on here where we can share. Thanks so much for this place and God bless you all!!

Have you tried MSM through Health Solutions, Inc. Hear they have had amazing results. I use it for my arthritis and pain. MSM HEALTH SOLUTIONS A NUTRACEUTICAL COMPANY, MSM, OptiMSM, Pure OptiMSM,. Tell them Anita Easton and Johnna Bigelow told you about them. Great stuff. Johnna diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. Couldn't dress herself now she is a waitress and hunts her limit in Wyoming. Anita
