I don't quite get this song - Three Wooden Crosses

I understand that there were 4 passengers but if 3 of them died then how can the preacher give a blood stained Bible to the hooker when there's only 1 person left. There was 4 people. 3 of them died so there is only 1 person left and after the 3 died the preacher gives the blood stained Bible to the hooker - that's 2 people. There was 4 people. 3 of them died so where do they come up with 2 people after 3 died out of the 4? Are they talking about another preacher?

    Jean Marie,
    1. Farmer, died (gave his land)
    2. Teacher died ( gave wisdom)
    3. Hooker died
    4. Preacher lived (gave Bible to the hooker)

    Hi Spoula,
But how could the preacher give the Bible to the hooker when she was dead?

Hi, I didn't listen to the whole song. It says it is not what you take with you when you die so maybe the preacher gave her the bible on the bus or just before she died. Or maybe the preacher was dying and gave the bible to the hooker before he died and she didn't die.
