Working with hand spun wool
Hi, I'm looking for anyone who spins their own wool, or who has worked with 'raw' wool. I'm curious about dying, and care and handling of this fibre. I'm just learning to spin (with a drop spindle) and I am anxious to get using some of the yarn I've got but I would like to dye it, and I'm wondering if it needs any special 'conditioning' or something. Some of the yarn is quite rough, and yellow, whereas some of it is quite white and soft. ( I was given this wool - several feed bags full - from a friend). I've tried bleach, 35% Hydrogen Peroxide, and boiling water to whiten the wool and by far the best is the HP. But I would like colour too.
I must say, I love the fibre from my Angora rabbits! It is just the most amazing stuff! But I havent been able to get anything made from it yet either. I only have one white Angora and he is 'huge' with fur, but not enough yet to use. It's harder to spin and I'm just getting the hang of it now.
Anyway, if anyone can help, I'd greatly appreciate any info you can give me.
Thanks,
Carol Marie

Ohhh, sounds like you are having fun with the natural yarn. I knew someone who used Kool Aid to dye yarn one time. I wish I had the instructions to do it, but maybe you can google it, there seems to be nearly any info out there that I can think of.
Good Luck. Let us know what you do.
