    Hi

I'm a new member, and I was wondering, if acrylic yarn is acceptable (tough enough) for making potholders, if you take a very hot dish out of the oven, would the acrylic yarn melt?

I made some potholders out of Red Heart Super Saver yarn, and while they are very pretty to look at hanging up, I think that decorative & useful items should be able to be used for their intended purpose.

    Hi, Vic,

I make mine out of cotton too, but I googled what temperature would acrylic yarn melt and I found this page where several crocheters weighed in with their experiences:

    Vic,

Hello and welcome! Most people that I know use cotton yarn over the others for this type of use.

Thank you! The consensus is.... They can, and often do, melt with some pretty bad consequences! Only cotton or wool; perhaps linen, maybe silk? Has anyone tried bamboo?
