Does anyone still work with Size 20 or size 30 Crochet thread?

If so, what do you make with it?

I do, too! The finer the thread, the more I like it. I have some vintage size 70 thread which I used to make a vintage doily pattern. I have used both the 20 and 30 for doilies, collars and Barbie doll clothes.

I've made dresses for those tiny baby dolls you find as baby shower favors with size 30 thread! I made tiny cradle purses and needed a baby for them! I trimmed the dress with embroidery floss!

In England size 20 thread is the most readily available so most doilies and coasters etc are made in this. I am a lace maker and tatter as well and have up to size 120 thread in my collection. You have to be very careful as you can cut yourself on such fine thread and the hooks are so small they can be dangerous. Irish crochet is best made with at the thickest no 40 and preferably no. 80 thread.

Suzy! You are my hero! I tried tatting but found out that more experience makes better doilies. And I do not have time to tat. May you show pictures of your works in irish crochet? And other works?

Wow! I'd love to learn to tat. Is it difficult to learn for someone who primarily works with the heavier threads? I've a chance to take a class this fall in tatting ....maybe I should just jump right in and try it!
