Help with a crochet problem
Hello,
My name is AZ Mother I am from Arizona.
I need help with a scarf I am crocheting. I want it to be 12 inches wide. I am using a worsted weight yarn size I hook . It starts out to be 12 inches and after crocheting a few rows it is only 11 inches. I count every stitch and I start with 36 stitches and that is what I end with. I am not adding any stitches.
Any suggestions.
Thanks
AZMother

Hello and welcome to the crochet forums! When you are crocheting, are you keeping the tension of your stitches consistent? In other words, do you find yourself crocheting more tightly, then relaxing? If the number of stitches is correct in each row, it could be the tension, or tightness you are using when doing the stitches.
What type of crochet stitch are you using in the crochet pattern?

Thanks for answering my request
I am doing all single crochet. I started a new scarf and am paying more attention to the tension and measuring the width every several inches. So far so good.

Hi Az Mother,
I would see how many stitches in an inch. Take it apart and add the extra stitches. Or use a larger hook and make a small sample to see how
it will come out then proceed to make it the correct size.
Be Well
