How do you change a knit pattern into a crochet pattern?

Could anyone tell me how to change a knit pattern into a crochet pattern. My mom liked the hat I made for my son and now she wants one for herself. It's called a Make-A-Statement-Hat. It uses Wool-Ease Thick & Quick yarn but its a knit hat. I've been looking for the crochet version but no luck. If anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated.

There isn't a direct method to do this but you can use the basic knit pattern to get the shape in crochet. Do you happen to have a link to the pattern instructions or a photo of what it looks like?

    I'll give it a go..

If it works once you have a look, I would love to see what you came up with. I have had the same curiosity about translating patterns from knit to crochet.

    Here's the pattern exactly......HAT
    Cast on 6 sts.
Row 1 (RS): Kfb in each st across - 12 sts.
    Rows 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12: Purl.
    Row 3: *K1, kfb; rep from * across row - 18 sts.
    Row 5: *K2, kfb; rep from * across row - 24 sts.
    Row 7: *K3, kfb; rep from * across row - 30 sts.
    Row 9: *K4, kfb; rep from * across row - 36 sts.
    Row 11: *K5, kfb; rep from * across row - 42 sts.
    Row 13: *K6, kfb; rep from * across row - 48 sts.
Next Row: *K1, p1; rep from * across row.
Next Row (RS): K the knit sts, p the purl sts.
Rep last 2 rows until piece measures about 18 in. (46 cm) from beginning, end with a WS row.
Note: End with a WS row means the last row you work should be a WS row, the next row you will work is a RS row.
    Shape Lining
    Row 1: *K6, k2tog, rep from * across row - 42 sts.
Row 2 and all WS Rows: Knit.
    Row 3: *K5, k2tog, rep from * across row - 36 sts.
    Row 5: *K4, k2tog, rep from * across row - 30 sts.
    Row 7: *K3, k2tog, rep from * across row - 24 sts.
    Row 9: *K2, k2tog, rep from * across row - 18 sts.
    Row 11: *K1, k2tog, rep from * across row - 12 sts.
    Row 13: *K2tog, rep from * across row - 6 sts.
Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread tail through remaining sts, pull tightly tog, and fasten off.

    FINISHING
Sew seam. Fold lining to inside of Hat. Sew Hat and lining tog at crown. Weave in ends.

Can you let me know who to convert using this info.

    Afghan lady

All you have to do is make it a single crochet instead of knit.

If all of the knit parts mean single crochet then what do all the purl parts mean?

There is no differentiation between knit and purl when it comes to crochet. Its all single crochet.

Kfb is an increase so that would be the equivalent to (2sc in next st)

k2tog is a decrease so that would be the equivalent to (sc dec over next 2 sts)
